Edible Heirlooms
FAVOURITE RECIPES FROM FAMILY, FRIENDS AND FOODIES
My grandmother was an old-fashioned, stern woman who lived in a house on the beach.
She made us scones whenever we visited, and they were the most incredible scones that I’ve ever tasted.
When I think of Grandma, I vividly recall pushing my way through the fragrant lupin bushes that lined the beach side of the road, a warm buttery scone clutched in my hand and the hot sand beneath my feet.
Grandma passed away when I was in my early twenties and later in life, when I started searching for these recipes, I was told by my father and his sisters that Grandma didn’t have a special recipe. It was just a basic scone recipe.
Was it? Was it free-range eggs or homemade butter that gave them the rich, yellow buttery-ness that I remember? Is it just an enhanced childhood memory?
I’ll never know because I don’t have her recipe.
Food does more than nourish our bodies.
It creates memories. It is the backbone of almost every occasion or experience.
It’s warm scones and lupin bushes. It’s standing on a chair to reach the bench and icing cupcakes. It’s that one dish that you always have on your birthday. It’s remembering those who have gone by tracing handwritten notes in an old cookbook.
Edible Heirlooms is a collection of these moments and memories, saved for future generations.
These recipes are not fancy, nor do they contain on-trend ingredients, the stories behind each dish are as important as the meal itself.
Come and share in the memories with me.
Thanks for joining me here on my Edible Heirlooms page.
If you follow me on social media, you will already be aware of this project and how close it is to my heart.
But if you've never heard of it, here is the run down:
Edible Heirlooms is a collection of family recipes, each with a story attached. I am cooking, styling
and shooting each recipe myself.
I feel passionately about the beauty of family stories and the special memories that they can bring flooding back
and am so excited to be bringing this collection to you.
I have gathered special recipes not just from myself and my own family, but from friends and foodies from
around the world.
Each time that I receive a new recipe story, it makes me smile and I truly hope that you will have the same reaction to reading the book. Some of the stories are sweet, some sentimental and some outright funny
My launch date is now set for October the 19th (my birthday!) at a sold-out launch event
and I'm so excited to be able to finally share it with you all
