The Café Chronicles - Hamlet Cafe
“We believe the effect you have on others is the most valuable currency there is.”
Hamlet Cafe 40 Molle Street Hobart. Tasmania
That quote tells you everything that you need to know about Hamlet Café.
Tucked away inside a restored warehouse and nestled alongside the Hobart Rivulet, Hamlet Café is a social enterprise that provides hands-on training to disadvantaged individuals.
Their programs are designed to support people who are experiencing social, cultural or language barriers, connecting individuals with one another, within our wonderful community.
Ambience:
Ply feature walls, high ceilings with the original exposed trusses and a warm fire make Hamlet the perfect comfortable and cosy spot to stop in for a hot drink and a meal.
Seating:
Hamlet offers a generous range of seating, with both indoor and two outdoor areas. There is plenty of uncrowded floor space, which makes a nice change from some places.
Menu:
Featuring an abundance of fresh, local products on the menu, Hamlet offers a tempting range from granola to a full breakfast
Ordered:
My fella ordered the Hamlet Breakfast, which consisted of poached eggs, local bacon, garlic sautéed kale, grilled mushrooms and crispy potato chunks, on local sourdough bread with a side of house-made relish.
As I heavily sampled it across the table, I can confirm that it was absolutely delicious. The kale was cooked with out being soggy and those crispy potatoes were soooo good.
I ordered the Avo Smash with Peas, Herbs and Feta and had a poached egg added to it.
The meal was topped with a pile of crisp and tasty slaw, which paired surprisingly well with the pea and avo smash.
The meals were a generous size for a very reasonable price.
Drinks:
The Big Fella had his usual cuppachino, which came in a beautiful big mug, and said that it was great coffee.
I had a pot of brewed chai with soy milk and, while a little weak for me, it was a lovely brew.
Try:
Looking over the menu, I’ve already started planning to go back for the Omelette with Buttered Leeks and Parmesan (drool) but the Honey Toasted Granola with Apricot Yoghurt and Poached Plums sounds pretty damn good too!
Try it and let me know if it is as delicious as it sounds.
