The Café Chronicles - Brookfield Margate

We love Brookfield.
Located at the gateway to the stunning D'Entrecasteaux Channel (where yours truly grew up), the old shed has seen many uses since its construction in the early 1900's - from seeds, to hops, to apples.
Brookfield itself was a vineyard still selling its last harvest from 2010 Pinot Noir.
It has now become a restaurant, live music venue, function room and much more.
In May of 2018, Brookfield was decimated by flash flooding created by a freak storm.
The water raged through the property at shoulder height and the interior of the complex was almost destroyed.
It looked doubtful for a while that it would ever re-open.
Julia, the owner and manager, had other plans though and she tirelessly worked, along with community support, to get the "Shed" back and running.
It's now back, as familiar as ever.
Ambience:
The rustic origins of the shed are visible with exposed timber features and timber lined walls.
Don't think that it is a dingy old shed though, Brookfield is light and airy.
Brookfield is a family run venue so the welcome that you receive is always genuine and warm.
Seating:
Plentiful comfortable seating inside gives you many options, or you can sit out in the garden where the resident pet rabbits like to frolic for attention.
Menu:
Fresh, tasty classic dishes are on the menu at Brookfield.
Ordered:
We don't even need to look at the menu. I always have the Eggs Benny with bacon, which Julia kindly serves to me with no bread and extra spinach.
The big guy has The Butty, which is eggs and bacon with relish on the side.
Drinks:
Mark had his usual cappuccino, and is always happy with what he is presented.
I had a long black, with cream on the side and was pleasantly surprised at how readily they complied with this request as some places can be difficult.
Try:
If I'm not eating the Eggs Benny, I love the Mushloumi, a mix of delicious sauteed mushrooms, rocket and haloumi, and Mark loves The Brookfield; a big breakfast to die for.
