Devonport holds a special place in our hearts.
For years, well before it became the trendy hub that it is now, we holidayed with our kids in our caravan at Mersey Bluff.
We had a permanent site there so that we could head up whenever we wanted and for a long time, Devonport was our second home.
We still love to stay there for some R&R and, as our tastes have grown and changed so has the cafe and food culture of this town.
Laneway is our must-go first breakfast of any trip.
We're not on holiday in Devonport until we've been to Laneway.
Ambience:
I love the styling of Laneway, from the fabulous feature lights to the exposed old bakers oven.
The instant you walk in the door, you feel relaxed and welcomed.
Seating:
Laneway has massive amounts of seating. The upstairs mezzanine leads through to an entire second room, while downstairs you can sit in the room adjacent to the main serving area.
Menu:
The menu is comprehensive, without being overdone and the emphasis is on fresh and local.
Ordered:
Mark had the Laneway Breakfast of poached eggs, bacon, spinach, miso mushrooms, hashbrowns and chipolata sausages and since I sampled a lot of it, I can testify that it was delicious. The Mt Gnomon bacon is to die for.
I had the Farmer's Mess; a potato, mushroom, capsicum, spinach and cheese omelette with more of that amazing bacon, served on sourdough rye (which I didn't eat, but looked yummy)
That omelette was the stuff of dreams, perfect flavours and so beautifully cooked.
Drinks:
Mark had a cappuccino and I had a long black.
Both of us already knew that it would be the best coffee in Devonport, it's why we go there.
Try:
If I can tear myself away from the Farmer's Mess, it will be for a plate full of Mt Gnomon bacon.
But I think I'll suggest that my son try the Argentinian "Loco" Beans; poached eggs, lemon herb chicken, spicy black beans, chimichurri, sour cream and a toasted tortilla.
And how can any self-respecting bloke say no to The Terry Breakfast Burger; fried eggs, bacon, relish and cheese on a sourdough bun?
