The Café Chronicles - King of the Castle
King of the Castle 24 Pakington St
Geelong West VIC 3218
Open: 7 days
If you follow me, you know that I spend a lot of time over in Geelong visiting family.
One of our absolute favourite haunts in Geelong is King of the Castle.
Tucked away inside an unassuming frontage, it's the best food in town.
Ambience:
From the outside, King of the Castle appears to be an industrial garage or storage space, complete with large roller door access.
But inside, they combine bright and airy, with plants and statement lights with steel trusses and distressed concrete.
Seating:
A series of booths line one wall. while a huge communal table provides plenty if additional seating.
Menu:
Healthy but tasty options, sweet and savoury are presented with flair and attention to detail.
Ordered:
We headed there for breakfast with our son on our last visit, so you get three dishes to check out:
My man ordered his usual poached eggs on sourdough, with bacon and relish and it looked delicious. The bacon was incredible.
I chose the Smashed Avo with halloumi and a poached egg.
It came served on seeded toast with a smear of green hummus, topped with a zucchini and citrus herb salad and drizzled with preserved lemon oil.
SO. FREAKING. GOOD
Our son had the Croissant Benny.
This dish is a croissant filled with pulled pork, pickled fennel slaw, apple chutney and poached eggs. It's finished off with cider hollandaise.
Okay. I'm not gonna lie, I thought this sounded like a bizarre way to start the day...until I tried a mouthful and it was amazing!
Drinks:
You'll be surprised to hear that hubby ordered a cappucchino and I got a soy chai.
Both were top notch.
Try:
I love to think that I'm going to have anything other than the smashed avo, but if I ever do it will probably be the Sourdough Crumpets (mmmmmmm) or the King Breakfast.
